Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

ARRIVAL DAY: MOSHI KILIMANJARO

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you are met after passing through customs. You will be Transferred to Maridadi Hotel in Moshi and have a comprehensive briefing and equipment check with your climbing manager and your guide.

Hiking time: 5–7 hours
Distance: ~11 km
Altitude gain: +1,200m
Acclimatization: Initial exposure

Your trek begins at Machame Gate after registration and briefing. You hike through dense rainforest filled with tall trees, moss, and wildlife. The trail can be muddy and humid, requiring steady pacing. This is a long first day with significant altitude gain, so walking slowly helps your body begin adapting to reduced oxygen levels.

Hiking time: 4–6 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Altitude gain: +850m
Acclimatization: Moderate gain

You leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The landscape opens into wide, rocky terrain with volcanic features and expansive views. The air becomes cooler and thinner, and your breathing deepens. The shorter distance helps balance altitude gain and allows gradual adaptation.

Hiking time: 6–7 hours
Distance: ~10 km
Altitude gain/loss: +780m up / -670m down
Acclimatization: Critical “climb high, sleep low”

You ascend toward Lava Tower, reaching over 4,600 meters where oxygen is significantly lower. This is a key acclimatization day. After spending time at high altitude, you descend to Barranco Camp. This process helps your body adapt more efficiently and reduces altitude sickness risk.

Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Altitude gain: +75m (with ups and downs)
Acclimatization: Active adaptation

The day begins with the famous Barranco Wall climb, a steep but manageable scramble. After reaching the top, the trail continues across ridges with multiple ascents and descents. Although the net gain is small, the terrain supports ongoing acclimatization.

Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Distance: ~4 km
Altitude gain: +605m
Acclimatization: Summit preparation

You climb into a barren alpine desert zone with thin air and colder temperatures. The pace slows as breathing becomes more difficult. At Barafu Camp, you rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Hiking time: 12–15 hours
Distance: ~20 km
Altitude gain/loss: +1,255m up / -4,255m down
Acclimatization: Maximum altitude exposure & descent

Summit day begins around midnight in freezing conditions. The climb is slow and physically demanding due to steep terrain and low oxygen. You reach Stella Point at sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you descend through multiple ecological zones to Mweka Gate.
