Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

DAY 1: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK - GAME DRIVE ADVENTURE

You will be picked up from Arusha early in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park, a scenic park famous for its massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and rich biodiversity. The journey takes about 2–3 hours, passing through Maasai villages and open savannah landscapes.

Upon arrival, you begin a full-day game drive exploring the Tarangire River area, which attracts large concentrations of wildlife during the dry season. Expect to see elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffalo, and a variety of bird species. Later in the afternoon, you proceed to your lodge or tented camp in the Karatu or Mto wa Mbu area for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart Tarangire and drive toward the world-famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at the crater rim with breathtaking panoramic views. The drive itself offers beautiful highland scenery and changing landscapes.

In the afternoon, you may enjoy a relaxed crater rim walk or visit a nearby Maasai community to learn about their traditional lifestyle. The cooler highland climate and dramatic views of the crater floor create a magical atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a lodge on or near the crater rim.

Early morning, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in one of the most wildlife-dense areas in Africa. The crater is home to the Big Five, including black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffalo, and leopards, as well as flamingos in the seasonal lakes.

After lunch, drive toward the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, heading to the Moshi area. You will arrive in the late afternoon and relax at your lodge near the slopes of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, preparing for the next day’s waterfall adventure.

After breakfast, visit the beautiful Materuni Waterfalls, located in a lush green environment at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy a scenic hike through banana and coffee plantations, guided by local Chagga people.

At the waterfalls, relax, swim in the natural pool, and enjoy the refreshing mist from the cascading water. You will also take part in a traditional coffee-making experience, learning how local farmers grow, roast, and brew organic coffee. After the experience, return to Arusha or transfer to the airport for your departure.

Frequent Asked Questions

Where is the best safari in Tanzania?

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

The ideal time to visit Tanzania is June to October, which is the dry season. Wildlife is easy to spot as animals gather near water bodies. Also, during this season, the Great Migration peaks in the northern Serengeti.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size. It also depends on whether you want an itinerary of private or shared tours. Wild and Nature Safaris offers a myriad of budget-friendly yet luxurious packages in Tanzania.

You can expect the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Also, expect more animals like hippos, zebras, giraffes, crocodiles, flamingos, cheetahs, and wildebeests. The parks of Tanzania offer stunning biodiversity and surprising wildlife encounters.
