Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

DAY 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Your adventure begins at Marangu Gate, where you complete registration and meet your mountain crew. The trek starts through lush rainforest filled with birdlife, waterfalls, and giant trees. The trail climbs gradually to Mandara Hut (2,700m), your first overnight stop. After a short rest, you can take an optional walk to the Maundi Crater viewpoint for fantastic views of Northern Tanzania.

You leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, where the landscapes become more open with giant heathers and unique plants like the Kilimanjaro giant lobelia. The trail is moderate with gentle ups and downs until you reach Horombo Hut (3,720m). The views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks are spectacular, especially during sunset.

Today you trek through the alpine desert, crossing a dry, rugged landscape with clear views of the summit ahead. The air becomes thinner as you reach Kibo Hut (4,703m), your base camp. You will have an early dinner and rest before the long summit push starting at midnight. Your guides will brief you and make sure you are well-prepared.

Summit day begins in the early hours, climbing through steep switchbacks toward Gillman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim. The final stretch to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, is challenging but extremely rewarding. After celebrating and taking photos at the summit, you descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and lunch. The day ends with a further descent to Horombo Hut, where you spend the night.

Your final trekking day takes you back through the moorland and rainforest zones to Marangu Gate. At the gate, you will sign out and receive your summit certificate. Your driver will meet you for the transfer back to the hotel for a well-deserved shower and relaxation after conquering Mount Kilimanjaro.
