DAY 1: ARRIVE TO ARUSHA - Start of Your Tanzania Safari

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional guide and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. This vibrant safari hub, located at the foot of Mount Meru, is the perfect place to relax before your adventure begins.

In the evening, enjoy a briefing about your upcoming Tanzania safari, followed by a relaxing dinner. The calm atmosphere and comfortable accommodation prepare you for the exciting journey ahead.

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive toward Lake Manyara National Park, a scenic journey that passes through local villages, farmlands, and the Great Rift Valley escarpment. As you enter the park, the environment changes dramatically into a lush groundwater forest filled with towering trees and playful troops of baboons.

Your game drive will take you through diverse habitats—from dense forest to open plains and the soda lake shoreline. During your Tanzania safari, you may spot elephants moving quietly through the forest, giraffes browsing acacia trees, and hippos cooling off in pools. Keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions resting on branches. At the lake, enjoy views of flamingos and other birdlife. After a full day of exploration, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, begin your journey toward the Serengeti, passing through the breathtaking Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This part of your Tanzania safari is incredibly scenic, with winding roads climbing into the highlands and offering spectacular viewpoints over the Ngorongoro Crater.

As you descend toward the Serengeti, the landscape transforms into vast open plains stretching as far as the eye can see. Wildlife sightings begin even before you reach your camp—zebras, wildebeest, antelopes, and predators are commonly seen. Enjoy a game drive en route to your lodge or tented camp, arriving in the late afternoon. After settling in, relax and enjoy dinner while listening to the natural sounds of the Serengeti.

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Serengeti, the heart of any unforgettable Tanzania safari. Begin with an early morning game drive at sunrise, when the golden light enhances the beauty of the plains and predators are most active.

You will spend the day moving through different  of the park, guided by wildlife movements and seasonal patterns. Your guide will help track animals and explain their behaviors, making the experience both exciting and educational. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, surrounded by untouched nature. In the afternoon, continue your exploration, possibly witnessing dramatic predator-prey interactions or large herds grazing peacefully. Return to camp in the evening for dinner and relaxation under the stars.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning game drive in the Serengeti, capturing the final highlights of this iconic destination. This part of your Tanzania safari offers a chance to revisit favorite areas or search for animals you may not have seen yet.

Later, begin your journey back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive itself is filled with wildlife sightings and stunning scenery. As you approach the crater rim, the temperature cools and the views become more dramatic. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the crater and a peaceful evening surrounded by nature.

Wake up early for one of the most exciting days of your Tanzania safari. After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wonder teeming with wildlife. The crater floor offers one of the highest concentrations of animals in Africa.

During your game drive, you may encounter black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffalo, and leopards, along with hyenas, zebras, and flamingos near the lake. Your guide will take you to the best viewing spots, including hippo pools and open grasslands. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. In the afternoon, ascend back to the rim and return to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Arusha. On the way, you may stop in Mto wa Mbu village for a short cultural experience, where you can interact with local communities, visit markets, or learn about traditional farming practices.

This final day of your Tanzania safari allows you to reflect on your incredible journey—from lush forests and endless plains to the wildlife-rich crater. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will be transferred to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of a truly memorable safari adventure.

Frequent Asked Questions

Where is the best safari in Tanzania?

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

The ideal time to visit Tanzania is June to October, which is the dry season. Wildlife is easy to spot as animals gather near water bodies. Also, during this season, the Great Migration peaks in the northern Serengeti.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size. It also depends on whether you want an itinerary of private or shared tours. Wild and Nature Safaris offers a myriad of budget-friendly yet luxurious packages in Tanzania.

You can expect the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Also, expect more animals like hippos, zebras, giraffes, crocodiles, flamingos, cheetahs, and wildebeests. The parks of Tanzania offer stunning biodiversity and surprising wildlife encounters.
