Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

DAY 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Begin Your Safari and Zanzibar Journey

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your private guide will welcome you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha. This first day of your safari and Zanzibar adventure is designed for rest and recovery after your flight.

In the evening, you will receive a detailed safari briefing covering all destinations, wildlife expectations, and seasonal highlights. This helps set the stage for your upcoming safari and Zanzibar experience.

Your safari and Zanzibar adventure begins in Tarangire National Park, famous for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees.

Spend the day exploring the park’s diverse ecosystems. The Tarangire River attracts large concentrations of wildlife, especially during dry periods. Expect elephants crossing in family groups, lions resting under acacia trees, and giraffes moving gracefully across the savannah.

Your guide will track wildlife movement throughout the day to maximize sightings. A picnic lunch in the bush gives you a chance to enjoy nature in complete tranquility.

Continue your safari and Zanzibar journey to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact but incredibly diverse park located at the base of the Great Rift Valley.

The park is known for tree-climbing lions, flamingos along the lake shore, hippos in freshwater pools, and dense forest filled with monkeys and birdlife. The scenery is dramatic, with steep escarpments and lush vegetation.

Enjoy a relaxed game drive before heading to Karatu for overnight stay in a peaceful highland lodge.

After breakfast, drive toward Serengeti National Park through scenic landscapes and wildlife corridors.

This is a key transition day in your safari and Zanzibar journey as you enter the world-famous Serengeti ecosystem. Upon arrival, enjoy your first afternoon game drive where you may already encounter lions, cheetahs, elephants, and vast herds of wildebeest.

As the sun sets over the plains, you arrive at your luxury tented camp surrounded by wilderness.

Spend a full day exploring the vast plains of Serengeti National Park.

This is one of the most important days of your safari and Zanzibar experience. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Migration or follow predators such as lions and cheetahs hunting across the open plains.

Your guide will tailor the route based on wildlife movement, ensuring maximum sightings throughout the day. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush and continue game viewing until sunset.

Begin early with a sunrise game drive in the Serengeti. This is the best time to observe predators returning from night hunts and herbivores beginning their day.

The soft morning light makes this one of the most beautiful days of your safari and Zanzibar journey for photography. Continue exploring different regions of the park, focusing on wildlife behavior and ecosystem dynamics.

Enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti National Park before heading toward the Ngorongoro Highlands.

This scenic drive continues your safari and Zanzibar experience with occasional wildlife sightings along the way. Arrive at your lodge overlooking the highlands near Ngorongoro Crater

Descend into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa and a highlight of your safari and Zanzibar itinerary. Expect high chances of spotting the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffalo, and possibly the rare black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor surrounded by wildlife before ascending in the afternoon.

After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy a short morning at the lodge with views over the highlands.

Later, transfer to the airstrip for your scenic flight to Zanzibar. This marks the transition from safari adventure to beach relaxation in your safari and Zanzibar journey. Upon arrival, you are transferred to your beachfront resort.

Enjoy a full cultural experience in Zanzibar. Visit spice farms where you learn about cloves, vanilla, cinnamon, and other local spices that shaped the island’s history. Continue to Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich culture, narrow streets, and historic architecture.

Spend the day relaxing on the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar. Swim in turquoise waters, enjoy optional snorkeling or diving, or simply relax under palm trees. This is the relaxation phase of your safari and Zanzibar experience.

Enjoy a free morning followed by optional activities. In the evening, experience a romantic sunset dhow cruise over the Indian Ocean. This is one of the most iconic experiences in your safari and Zanzibar journey, offering stunning views of the sunset over the water.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before your transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your unforgettable safari and Zanzibar adventure.

Frequent Asked Questions

Where is the best safari in Tanzania?

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

The ideal time to visit Tanzania is June to October, which is the dry season. Wildlife is easy to spot as animals gather near water bodies. Also, during this season, the Great Migration peaks in the northern Serengeti.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size. It also depends on whether you want an itinerary of private or shared tours. Wild and Nature Safaris offers a myriad of budget-friendly yet luxurious packages in Tanzania.
