DAY 1: Zanzibar to Tarangire National Park – Elephant Paradise

Your safari begins with a morning flight from Zanzibar to Arusha. Upon arrival, meet your professional safari guide and drive to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most underrated gems.

Tarangire is best known for its large elephant herds, often seen gathering along the Tarangire River, especially during the dry season. The park is also home to lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and a variety of bird species. Its landscape is unique, dotted with giant baobab trees that create a dramatic and photogenic environment.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park while surrounded by wildlife, then continue with an afternoon game drive, exploring different parts of the park with your guide. As the day ends, drive to your lodge near the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, descend into the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most famous wildlife destinations. This volcanic caldera is home to an incredible density of animals, making it one of the best places to spot the Big Five in a single day.

Inside the crater, you may encounter lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, hippos, and if lucky the rare black rhino. The scenery is equally breathtaking, with open grasslands, a soda lake filled with flamingos, and forested areas supporting diverse wildlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before continuing your game drive. In the afternoon, ascend the crater and transfer back to Arusha for your return flight to Zanzibar.

Arrive in Zanzibar in the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable short safari.

Frequent Asked Questions

Where is the best safari in Tanzania?

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

The ideal time to visit Tanzania is June to October, which is the dry season. Wildlife is easy to spot as animals gather near water bodies. Also, during this season, the Great Migration peaks in the northern Serengeti.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size. It also depends on whether you want an itinerary of private or shared tours. Wild and Nature Safaris offers a myriad of budget-friendly yet luxurious packages in Tanzania.
