Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

DAY 1: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE - ELEPHANT KINGDOM

Your Tanzania safari begins with an early morning pick-up from Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, you will pass through Maasai villages and open countryside, offering a glimpse into local life.

Upon entering the park, you will begin a full-day game drive across rolling savannah dotted with iconic baobab trees. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds, and you will likely see them gathering near the Tarangire River, along with lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and various antelope species. Your guide will help track wildlife and explain animal behavior, making your Tanzania safari both exciting and informative. In the late afternoon, drive to Marera Valley Lodge in Karatu  for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single day, making it a highlight of your Tanzania safari.

Inside the crater, you will explore diverse habitats including open grasslands, forests, and a soda lake that attracts flamingos. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, zebras, and, with luck, the rare black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. In the afternoon, ascend the crater and return to Marera Valley  Lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for your final day of the Tanzania safari. This park is known for its diverse ecosystems, from lush groundwater forest to open plains and the alkaline lake.

Enjoy a game drive through the forest where you may encounter troops of baboons, blue monkeys, and elephants. As you move toward the lake, look out for flamingos, hippos, and a variety of birdlife. Lake Manyara is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, though sightings are rare and special. After a picnic lunch, continue your game drive before returning to Arusha in the late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable Tanzania safari.

Frequent Asked Questions

Where is the best safari in Tanzania?

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

The ideal time to visit Tanzania is June to October, which is the dry season. Wildlife is easy to spot as animals gather near water bodies. Also, during this season, the Great Migration peaks in the northern Serengeti.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size. It also depends on whether you want an itinerary of private or shared tours. Wild and Nature Safaris offers a myriad of budget-friendly yet luxurious packages in Tanzania.
