The 4 Days Mount Meru Climb offers a relaxed and well-paced ascent to Socialist Peak (4,566m), Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. This itinerary provides better acclimatization, more time to enjoy the scenery, and a higher summit success rate.
Located within Arusha National Park, Mount Meru is unique for its combination of mountain trekking and wildlife viewing, making it an excellent standalone climb or a perfect pre-acclimatization trek for Mount Kilimanjaro.

Your Mount Meru adventure begins at Momella Gate after registration and meeting your armed ranger. The trail passes through open grassland and montane forest, where you may encounter giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, and monkeys.
As you ascend, enjoy scenic views of Mount Meru’s slopes and the surrounding landscapes of Arusha National Park before reaching Miriakamba Hut.
Overnight: Miriakamba Hut
Elevation: 2,514m → 3,570m
Distance: ~8 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
After breakfast, continue trekking through forest that gradually opens into alpine vegetation. The trail offers impressive views of the Meru Crater, Ash Cone, and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Arrive at Saddle Hut early, allowing time to rest and acclimatize at higher altitude.
Overnight: Saddle Hut
Elevation: 3,570m → 3,820m → 3,570m
Distance: ~5 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
This day is dedicated to acclimatization, greatly improving summit success. After breakfast, hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for acclimatization and spectacular views.
Return to Saddle Hut for lunch, rest, hydration, and final summit preparation.
Overnight: Saddle Hut
Elevation: 3,570m → 4,566m → 1,500m
Distance: ~19 km
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours
The summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek along a dramatic ridge with steep crater walls on one side and open plains on the other. At sunrise, reach Socialist Peak (4,566m) and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru Crater, and the surrounding plains.
After celebrating your summit, descend to Saddle Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Momella Gate, where your Mount Meru climb concludes.
