Safari Overview

Family safari is the perfect way to create unforgettable memories while exploring the beauty of Africa’s wildlife together. Designed for both adults and children, a family safari combines adventure, education, and relaxation in a safe and exciting environment.

One of the best destinations for a family safari is Tanzania, home to world-famous parks like Serengeti National Park and the stunning Ngorongoro Crater.

These locations offer incredible opportunities for families to witness wildlife up close, making every family safari both thrilling and educational.

During a family safari, children and adults alike can enjoy game drives where they spot lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and many other animals in their natural habitat.

A well-planned family safari ensures shorter travel times, engaging activities, and experienced guides who know how to keep younger travelers entertained and safe.

A family safari also provides valuable learning experiences, allowing children to understand nature, wildlife conservation, and different ecosystems.

Many lodges and camps offer kid-friendly programs, making a family safari both fun and interactive for all ages.

Comfort is an important part of any family safari, and accommodations range from family-friendly lodges to spacious tented camps with modern amenities.

These carefully selected options ensure that your family safari is relaxing after a day full of adventure.

Safety is always a priority, and a professionally guided family safari ensures that all activities are conducted in a secure and controlled environment.

With expert guides and well-organized itineraries, families can enjoy peace of mind throughout their family safari experience.

The best time for a family safari depends on your travel preferences, but the dry season is ideal for wildlife viewing, while the green season offers fewer crowds and beautiful landscapes.

Regardless of when you go, a family safari promises exciting wildlife encounters and quality time together.

Detailed Itinerary

Day by Day

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Upon arrival in Arusha, your family will be transferred to Arusha Planet  Lodge surrounded by nature. After check-in, children can stretch their legs in the garden or enjoy the swimming pool while parents relax after the journey. The peaceful environment helps everyone adjust before the safari begins.

In the evening, meet your professional safari guide for a detailed briefing. Kids will love learning about the animals they might see, while parents can ask questions about safety and the itinerary. Enjoy a relaxed family dinner and a good night’s rest.

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park for your first full safari experience. Enjoy a morning game drive where your guide will introduce the family to Tanzania’s wildlife. Expect to see elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and a variety of birds. Kids can participate by spotting animals and learning fun facts along the way.

After a picnic lunch, continue with an afternoon game drive through different parts of the park. You will visit the Tarangire River, a key wildlife hotspot. Later, head to Marera Valley Lodge  where children can enjoy open spaces while parents relax. End the day with a family dinner and storytelling about the day’s sightings.

Begin your journey toward Serengeti National Park, passing through beautiful landscapes and local villages. Along the way, you can stop for photos, short breaks, and optional cultural interactions, giving children a glimpse of local life in Tanzania.

Upon entering the Serengeti, enjoy a game drive en route to your camp. This is an exciting transition as the scenery opens into vast plains filled with wildlife. Arrive at Into The Wild Tented Camp in the late afternoon, where the family can relax before dinner and enjoy the sounds of nature at night.

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti with flexible game drives. Start early in the morning when animals are most active. Children will enjoy spotting lions, cheetahs, elephants, and possibly witnessing hunting behavior or migration herds (seasonal).

Return to camp for a short rest or lunch, then head out again for an afternoon game drive. Guides often make this interactive by teaching kids about animal tracks, habitats, and survival skills. In the evening, gather around the campfire for stories and a warm family dinner under the stars.

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before heading toward the Ngorongoro Crater. The drive offers scenic views of the highlands and opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.

Optionally, visit a Maasai village for a cultural experience where children can learn about traditional dances, homes, and daily life. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim in the afternoon, where cooler temperatures and stunning views create a relaxing environment for the family.

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. This is one of the best places for children to see many animals in a short time due to the high concentration of wildlife. Expect to spot lions, elephants, buffalo, flamingos, and possibly the rare black rhino.

Enjoy a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, giving kids a chance to watch animals up close in a safe setting. After the game drive, return to your lodge for relaxation. The evening is perfect for family bonding, sharing stories, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

After breakfast, drive back to Arusha. Along the way, you may stop at local markets or craft shops where children can pick souvenirs and learn about local art and culture.

Depending on your flight schedule, relax at a day room or enjoy a short city tour before heading to the airport. This final day allows your family to reflect on the incredible experiences shared throughout the safari.

Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater are the two most iconic safari experiences in Tanzania. Tarangire and Ruaha are amazing for elephant sightings with fewer crowds and adrenaline-boosting off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tanzania tours are quite safe when booked with reputable operators such as Wild and Nature Safaris. Professional guides, well-managed accommodation, and secure vehicles ensure that you get a secure and comfortable experience throughout your stay.

It depends. The more you want to explore, the more days you need. However, a one-week safari is ideal most of the time. This may include multiple parks, enjoying vivid landscapes, and maximizing wildlife viewing. Shorter trips are also possible, but then you will limit your experience.

Tanzania Tours prices range from US$350 to US$1000 per person per day. The costs depend on the season of traveling, accommodation style, and group size.
